Information

Description:
Consultation 'Mass Spectrometer'
TNW is looking for a highly flexible and state-of-the-art high end 'Mass Spectrometer' for bottom-up (large scale) proteomics and for untargeted analysis of highly complex sample mixtures.

Preferred is a FTMS type Mass Spectrometer capable of operating at very high mass accuracy, very high resolution and very high MS/MS sensitivity. The instrument is needed to efficiently investigate proteomes from microbial cell systems and microbial communities with unknown composition.

The high-end specification will also be of importance for identification of novel protein modifications, metabolites and exopolymeric substances from complex mixtures with unknown chemistry. Ultra-high mass resolution at high and low mass range in MS2 is further desired to allow efficient TMT-multiplexing experiments.

In addition, the instrument is expected to offer a broad linear dynamic range, allowing to quantify small metabolite molecules, peptides and proteins. Preferred is an instrument with low maintenance costs and a small footprint.

Functional and technical requirements:
  • A very flexible mass spectrometer, which system is well-established in the field of bottom-up and large-scale proteomics;
  • High end specifications to allow efficient de-novo sequencing experiments;
  • Quantification of peptides or small metabolite molecules at a very wide dynamic range, ideally with a type of detection showing no saturation at very high concentrations;
  • Fragmentation alternative to CID, like a hard, triple quad like fragmentation;
  • Very high mass accuracy such as equal or better than 3-4 ppm with external calibration (ideally stable over days), or 1 ppm for internal calibration;
  • Ultra-high resolution (>100.000@ 200 m/z) in MS1 and MS2 enabling highly multiplexed TMT experiments (e.g. 8plex and more);
  • Possibility of high scan speed (such as 10 Hz) and highly efficient and sensitive collection of MS/MS spectra;
  • Small footprint instrument with low maintenance costs (no magnet).
