Reason for the Tender Procedure
Maastricht University as the lead-partner in the ETpathfinder project will host a facility aimed at the development and tests of extremely sensitive optical interferometers. The primary goal is to improve the sensitivity to the level required by future generations of gravitational wave detectors. More general, ETpathfinder will also be an international center for research into gravitational astronomy, high-precision measurement techniques, seismic isolation, measurement and control software, cryogenics and (quantum) optics.

The facility will include a large vacuum vessel to be assembled in a large cleanroom at Maastricht University which collectively provide the environment for the future R&D activities. This vacuum vessel is intented to eventually achieve a vacuum better than 1 x 10-9 mbar (as opposed to the 1 x 10-7 mbar requested to demonstrate as part of the acceptance test. In view of this UHV ambition, the supplier is expected to reduce contaminations and in particular hydro-carbons of all parts as described in the requirements document.

Purpose and intended result of the Tender Procedure
