'GVB connects Amsterdam' is GVB's mission. This is achieved by promoting the accessibility, quality of life and mobility of people in and around Amsterdam.
In addition to traveling with the OV chip card, GVB will be introducing new payment methods in the coming years, including "traveling on barcodes". This new payment method contributes to the following objectives of GVB:

• As a strong partner for Amsterdam and its inhabitants, GVB collaborates in a joint product concept with appealing partners in Amsterdam (eg Mobility as a Service solutions).
• Offering barcode means that we will serve more travelers and generate more revenue.
• Increasing Customer Satisfaction by:

• the replacement of paper tickets into mobile barcode tickets, and reducing payment by cash transactions
• Introducing digital tickets that are provided with useful travel information.
• Providing the ability to buy a ticket anywhere, anytime (also at home which means our passengers come prepared) through GVB or its online partners
• Making the purchasing process quick and easy 
• Integrating a GVB ticket with an admission ticket for museums, theater or event can become very easy with barcodes.
