The law "Wind energy at Sea (Windenergie op Zee)" of July 1, 2015, intends to scale up wind energy in the Dutch sector of the North Sea. In this law TenneT TSO B.V. (hereafter TenneT) is chosen to be the offshore grid operator. In this role TenneT is responsible for the grid connection of the offshore wind farms to the onshore network.
IJmuiden Ver (IJV) is, after Borssele WOZ, Hollandse Kust (zuid) HKZ, Hollandse Kust (noord) HKN, Hollandse Kust (west), Ten Noorden van de Wadden the sixth area that will be developed. TenneT is responsible for the planning, design, construction, operation and future removal of the offshore and onshore connection of wind areas to the onshore high voltage grid of TenneT. The locations of the various assets are being decided together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. The future wind turbines will be directly connected to TenneT's platforms.
The objective of this tender procedure is the execution of geotechnical soil investigations in order to obtain geotechnical information on the two platform locations of IJmuiden Ver, and an optional third platform, which is suitable to progress the design and installation requirements for the offshore high voltage substations.
The geotechnical soil investigation must provide relevant information about the soil to a depth below which possible existence of weak formations will not influence the safety or performance of offshore high voltage substations.
