General information Maastricht University
Maastricht University (UM) is known in the Netherlands and abroad for its unique education system: problem-based learning (PGO). UM also distinguishes itself by its strong international orientation. An increasing number of students from all over the Netherlands as well as from abroad opts for the Maastricht system. UM is the youngest university of the Netherlands and growing fast. It currently has approximately 18,000 students and 4,400 employees. Education and research at UM are mainly organised on the basis of faculties and schools. More information on UM can be found on the internetsite www.maastrichtuniversity.nl.
Reason for the Tender Procedure Maastricht University as the lead-partner in the ETpathfinder project will host a facility aimed at the development and tests of extremely sensitive optical interferometers like those used in gravitational wave detectors. The primary goal is to improve the sensitivity to the level required by future generations of gravitational wave detectors. ETpathfinder will be an international center for research into high-precision measurement techniques, vibration isolation, measurement and control software, cryogenics and (quantum) optics in the context of next-generation gravitational-wave infrastructures. Within the facility (see an overview in Figure 2.1), high precision optical systems will be installed, together with their vibration isolation units, inside an ultra-high vacuum vessel (UHV) which provides the environment for the R&D activities.
A more detailed description of the ETpathfinder project can be found in: https://www.etpathfinder.eu/.
Description of the Contract The tender is intended for the procurement of the parts needed for the assemblies of the six pre-isolation platforms to be used for horizontal vibration isolation of the in-vacuum mirrors and optical benches in the ETpathfinder R&D facility. Each platform consists of a welded and machined aluminum structure mechanically connected to the floor level of the facility by means of four inverted pendulum legs. A CAD view of some of the platform assemblies is shown in Figure 2.2. Some of the parts of the assemblies, such as the inverted pendulum flexures etc., are not subject of the tender. For this reason, the bidder shall only refer to the list of drawings and BOM in Table 1. The requirements for the parts in terms of manufacturing procedures, finishing, packaging for delivery are described in the questionnaires.
Purpose and intended result of the Tender Procedure The purpose of this Tender Procedure is to enter into an Agreement with one (1) party.
